The
Driver : Adrian Linton
Adrian
started watching motor sport events from 1981. After a
number of years of spectating, there was one particular
event where one of the entries drove an identical to the one
that he had, right down to the color and tint of the
windows (Daihatsu Charade Turbo). He thought that he could
do at least as good as he did or even better and put in his
entry for the Barbados Motoring Club the following day.
The very
first event he actually entered was the Dexterity test in
1987 at the old airport. I did not have a fire extinguisher
and was loaned one by a fellow competitor. He was actually
leading overall until a wrong direction drop him to 5th
place. He competed avidly from then on and won the
Motoring Club driver of the year in 1988.
He was so
into motor sport that he joined the Barbados Rally Club in
order to drive more events. At this time there were quite
often clashes in events as well as events on back to back
days. It was so hectic at one time that there were two
speed events on the same day in the different clubs and he
drove the practice run of one event, went to the 2nd one and
did the first official run, went back to the 1st to do the
2nd official run and back again to complete the final run on
the 2nd event.
Adrian
also remembers doing a night rally that started Saturday
evening and finished Sunday morning and going straight to
Turner’s Hall to do a hill sprint with the car still covered
in mud and wearing rally tires.

Co-Driver: Jonathan Linton

"Take
away rallying and what's left of Jonathan would dissolve
into a puddle of hair and teeth." So says his wife, Alecia,
and Jonathan does not deny it. Younger brother of Adrian Linton,
Jonathan started watching motorsport in 1981 at the tender
age of 11 years old. When Adrian decided to enter
navigational rallies, Jonathan needed little encouragement
to settle into the co-driver's seat. Starting out in
the young team's Mini, then their Mazda 323, followed
by the first KICKASTRA MkII, Jon even tried his hand at
driving shared-car speed events but eventually realized
Adrian was clearly THE driver (he regularly beat Jon),
and Jon was a first class navigator.
The
brothers have a strong partnership - while Adrian does most
of the hands on car preparation, irons out the kinks in
Jon's "theories" and mans the wheel, Jon strengths lay
also in researching, sourcing, and planning.
A regular
competitor in Barbados rally circuit and in Jamaica with
Adrian, Jonathan has also done much smaller
US (Florida) SCCA Rallycross events, but to date the high
point of his roughly twenty-year rally career has been
prepping a MkIV Astra OPC for competition in the WRC Wales Rally GB
2006 (Barbados flag prominently and proudly featured). Outfitting the car to FIA standards, taking care of
all the logistics, and funding the major portion of the costs
(the rest provided by Adrian and invaluable sponsors Ravensden and Global Brands, UK distributor for Carib
Beer) taxed all Jonathan's skill and resolve, but the result
was much more than worth it.
Co-Driver: Jackie Linton

Jackie is
the wife of Adrian Linton and occupies the Co-Driver's seat
when brother Jonathan cannot join from his current home of
Germany. Jackie won awards for top female competitor
in 2006 and partnered Adrian to an overall victory of a
one-day rally in 2006, the first 2WD overall victory in a
rally for many years.

The
Crew: Dominic Linton, Michael "Barefoot Rastaman" Collymore

Adrian's
son Dominic has understandably been bitten by the rally bug
and although he hasn’t taken on any driving or navigating
duties as yet is very enthusiastic to do so. He is always
around, available and interested in anything that is done
with the car and is always willing to lend a hand.
Michael
has been a friend of the family for many years and is the
chief (just about only) mechanic/assistant/helper/just about
everything else and his service has been invaluable. |
